SPINY DESERT AND RAINFOREST
7 days - Scenic drives to Perinet and Berenty Reserves, visit to artisans' market and picturesque Fort Dauphin. Thursday and Saturday departures from Antananarivo

Day 1
Antananarivo - Your tour starts in the capital city of Madgascar affectionately known as "Tana", with an overnight stay at the Hotel Colbert.
Day 2
Antananarivo/ Perinet Reserve - Morning departure for drive through the highlands, towards eastern rain forest. Stop to visit La Mandraka Nature Farm, a place where you can get an introduction about the different reptiles in Madagascar. Late morning check in at the Vakona Forest Lodge, in attractively furnished cottages, nestled in a forest and garden setting. Afternoon visit the small Vakona reserve. Dinner and overnight
Day 3
Perinet Reserve - Early start exploring the reserve, looking at the Indri Indri and to hear their haunting "singing call", mild hiking provides a good opportunity to experience the abundant flora and fauna of the eastern rain forest. Evening walk to get acquainted with the nocturnal lemur species such as the tiniest "mouse lemurs". Dinner and overnight at Vakona
Day 4
Perinet / Antananarivo / Fort Dauphin - Drive back to Antananarivo to catch the late morning flight to Fort Dauphin at the most southern tip of Madagascar. Balance of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the Miramar hotel with spectacular views of sunset over the Indian ocean.
Day 5
Fort Dauphin / Berenty Reserve - Morning departure for Berenty Reserve, a two-hour picturesque drive from the coastal rainforest to the spiny desert. Stop along the way to see rare three-cornered palms and funerary art of the Malagasy burial grounds. Afternoon and evening visits to the reserve; meals and overnight at Gite d'Etape at the very edge of the reserve
Day 6
Berenty Reserve - Day to visit the reserve with walks along the wide, well swept paths. The Lemur Catta Maki, better known as the ring-tailed lemurs, are very friendly and seem pleased to pose for photographs. Be ready for surprise encounters with the beautiful sifaka lemur as they "dance" across the path. Other species include flying foxes, lizards, chameleons, the endangered radiated tortoise and dozens of species of rare birds. Late return to Ft. Dauphin for return flight to Antananarivo and overnight at Hotel Colbert.
Day 7
Antananarivo - Day in the capital to enjoy an interesting excursion to the Queen's summer palace at Ambohimanga and shopping at the colorful artisan's market of Androvoahangy, or visit to the Tsimbazaza Zoo and Cultural Museum. Farewell dinner with transfer to charming Villa Vanille restaurant and overnight at Hotel Colbert.
