Day 1
Antananarivo - Your tour begins in the capital city of Madgascar affectionately known as "Tana", with an overnight stary at the Hotel Colbert.
Day 2
Antananarivo/ Perinet Reserve - Morning departure through the scenic highlands countryside towards the Eastern rain forest of Perinet reserve. Stop en route to visit La Madraka Nature Farm for an introduction to the incredible variety of Madagascar reptiles. Late morning check-in at the Vakona Forest Lodge, a complex of attractively furnished cottages nestled in a forest and garden setting. Afternoon hike in the adjacent Vakona reserve with dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
Day 3
Perinet Reserve - Early start to explore the reserve, and look for the Indri Indri and hear their haunting "singing call". Mild hiking provides a good opportunity to experience the abundant flora and fauna of the Eastern rain forest. Evening walk to get acquainted with the nocturnal lemur species such as the tiniest "mouse lemur". Dinner and overnight at Vakona Forest Lodge.
Day 4
Perinet / Antananarivo - Drive back to Antananarivo, returning in time to shop at Andravoahangy crafts market for exquisite embroideries, semi-precious stones, and assorted straw and raffia articles. Lodging overnight at Hotel Colbert.
Day 5
Antananarivo / Maroantsetra - Morning flight to Maroantsetra, one of the most pristine and virgin areas of rain forest left in Madagascar and gateway to the Masoala National Park. Transfer to the Relais du Masoala hotel with balance of the day at leisure to enjoy the lush coconut grove overlooking a tranquil lagoon and fine sand beach begging for a stroll. Evening walk around the hotel and nearby forest for a glimpse of the areas nocturnal species. Meals and overnight at Relais du Masoala.
Day 6
Maroantsetra / excursion to Nosy Mangabe Reserve - Day outing with picnic lunch to Nosy Mangabe Island Reserve, just six kilometers off shore. One is sure to see the curious white-faced brown lemur and the unique leaf-tailed gecko on a pleasant walk along the beach. A more challenging uphill climb provides an opportunity to see an ancient burial site and the black and white ruffed lemur high in the trees. For the more intrepid, a vigorous climb to the top of the island reveals excellent view of the Bay of Antongil and the Masoala Peninsula National Park . Dinner and overnight Relais du Masoala.
Day 7
Maroantsetra / Antananarivo - Morning visit to Maroantsetra's busy market place, known for straw hats and bags, as well as the colorful native cloth called "Lambaoany" before transfering to the airport for return flight to Antananarivo. Farewell dinner with transfer to charming Villa Vanille restaurant. Overnight at Hotel Colbert.
